Bengalooru-ed

Call it linguistic jingoism, chauvinism etc... this is a bad move. I'm reminded of a line I read in some magazine when this renaming spree on:

Okay, now we've renamed Bombay as Mumbai. Madras is now Chennai. And Calcutta has become Kolkata. Why wait? Let's rename India as Foolishstan!

A bad distasteful move indeed.

personally, chennai, mumbai atleast sound good. Bengalooroo sucks! Esp. it doesn't augur well for the silicon valley of india to be given a funny name as this. bangalore needs some branding managers to intervene, i believe.
reg. renaming india, i would prefer hindoostaanoo :-P

Inevitable, folks, inevitable! Soon as Mumbai was born, we knew that it would only be a matter of time before the other cities too hitched their wagons to this train of thought. Chennai, Kolkata, Bengalooru... would it now spread on to the towns and villages? There's no dearth of them in our country. Opens up endless possibilities, doesn't it?

I wonder what they call Agartala over there...

The ultimate name change will be when Patna will become Patliputr and Delhi will become Hastinapur! Ever thought of financial aspect of name changes? How much money they will spend on repainting names on stations and highways and government offices? Now I know whey they invented digital signboards.

May be a poor man will feel better if he is hungry in Bengalooru than being hungry in Bangalore. What about Bombay and Madras? Well already poverty is being eliminated from these cities and now they are concentrating on Mumbai and Chennai.

i felt strongly abt this, blogged it too!

but Foolishstan? excuse! there is no reason for that. any (and all) name changes have a precedent. A few and handful idiots can change what this country is? i give it a pass.

No way. This is India, Bharat, Hindustan. It will remain that way. Curse the ppl who change it. Dont curse the country. The country is made up of you, soumya, kartick, vin and I.

bengaluru is its original name. it is not a choice. For people of karnataka "bengaluru" is sweet. It is unfortunate that fellow indian citizens are insensitive to recognize the feel of it for the people of state.
